Welcome to New Monklands Parish Church a place built for the glory of God and to tell the story of Jesus Christ. It’s my great pleasure on behalf of the Kirk Session and congregation to welcome you to this unique and holy place.
For nearly four hundred years this historic and beautiful building has stood on a hill, six hundred feet above sea level, at the centre of Christianity in these parts. Consequently, we’re also affectionately known the “Auld Grey Kirk on The Hill” and, accordingly, we’re instantly recognisable to visitors.
We are a Christian church, a parish of the Church of Scotland in the Presbytery of Hamilton. Our governance is Presbyterian and we are a place of worship, unconditional welcome, hospitality, human creativity and work.
Our purpose is to worship God, share the gospel of Jesus Christ, welcome all who come, celebrate and pass on our rich Christian heritage and discover our place in God’s creation. Today we remain a thriving church rooted in the offering of worship, service and prayer - the true home of an active Christian family who seek to make their parish Church a place of love, beauty and holiness. We are pilgrims and searchers who take the mission extremely seriously - but ourselves much less so - and so we know how to laugh and have fun as we witness together.
The contemporary and future focus of The Auld Grey Kirk On The Hill is to determine shapes, structures and stratagem to meet the challenge to the church in this time. New Monkland Parish Church has excellent, historic facilities, a strong and united leadership team and a faithful and committed people. These very precious assets will continue to serve in the best interests of this Kirk and this parish in both, the challenging present, and into a very promising and rewarding future.
We invite you to discover this sacred place and the love of God at its heart. We offer you our blessings and good wishes for your life and in work and at home.
Rev. William Jackson B.D., Cert. Min.
